You can never go wrong with short hair and Kanye West is a perfect example of that to say the least for this controversial artist that insures he will always be one of the Best Male Hip Hop Artists nominated for a BET award as he is this year( Congratulations to the winner, Drake). Think “Famous” his latest project to drop that is inspiring head lines like this all over the internet “Kanye West puts named Taylor Swift, Rihanna, Trump, Cosby in new ‘Famous’ video.
It seems like every celebrity is in on the trend to go short (even the market). Short hair is always a go-to-style for anyone looking for a fresh new look or to simply switch things up a little bit. In the spirit of reinventing looks from the past, we have compiled a list of celebrity inspired short hairstyles for the summer of 2016.
Beyonce Inspired Blunt Bob
Beyonce always looks fierce in every hairstyle she wears and the same goes for the blunt bob that she has been spotting. She wears the shoulder-length bob in her signature caramel hue and tops it off with a mid-part.
Rihanna’s Cleopatra-Inspired Look
Celebrities also do borrow a leaf or two from past legends and that’s precisely what Rihanna did with a Cleopatra-inspired hairdo. Rihanna showed up to the 2014 Paris Fashion Week in Balmain spotting an asymmetrical bob complete with a blunt-bang.
Jennifer Hudson’s Cropped Pixie
J-hud premiered her short pixie look about a few years back. She had spotted a myriad of short dos before that, but her Cropped Pixie still remains memorable. She maintained the look in a jet black hue, same with her recent dramatically short do.
Jourdan Dunn’s Ombre Bob
British model Jourdan Dunn premiered a short at the MVAs in 2014. She took it a notch higher by wearing her bob in an ombre hue. The key to her gorgeous ombre short do is that the color is blended evenly starting with a dark brown hue at the roots and then transitioning to honey.
Ciara’s Lob
Last year at the MTV VMAs Ciara unveiled a long bob (lob) look. She wore the bob in a jet-black hue and a mid-part. The singer has rocked short dos in the past, but we had gotten used to her waist-long looks for a while now. She went further to switch it up by getting wearing her lob in a textured look accompanied with a bang.
Kim Kardashian Platinum Blonde Do
Kim Kardashian made a huge change going short and she followed it up by dying her hair a platinum blonde hue. She debuted the look during the 2015 Paris Fashion Week and created a buzz with her new look. However, she has since gone back to her brunette look but her platinum do remains etched in our minds as an inspiration.
Here Kim is with her husband Kanye West for the announcement of his newest project “Cruel Winter” which by the way he recently dropped a single, “Champions” . Take a listen over at Sound Cloud under Champions-good-music . We think you’ll like it as much as we do. But even more controversial is the “Famous” video he released recently that shows the naked Kayne beside the also naked Kim with the spiting likenesses of ten other celebrities who are also nude. The other celebrities include none other than Taylor Swift, Rihanna, Donald Trump, George Bush, Chris Brown, Amber Rose, Ray J, Anna Wintour (you know the Vogue Editor who once hired Trumps daughter Tiffany to be a Vogue intern), Caitlyn Jenner, and even Bill Cosby. Kanye reportedly told the magazine Vanity Faire that the video is a “comment on fame”. The video is blowing up all over the Internet under provocative headlines like :
- Kanye West puts naked Taylor Swift, Rihanna, Trump, Cosby in new ‘Famous’ video
- A ‘Who’s Who’ guide to the naked celebrities in Kanye’s new NSFW music video
- Kanye West nuzzles naked Taylor Swift, Donald Trump & Bill Cosby in Famous video

Rita Ora’s ‘Boho’ Sleek Back
Rita Ora seems to change her hairstyle faster than we can keep up with, but the ‘boho’ Sleek Back look she spotted a while back definitely got our attention. She wore the avant-garde hairstyle in an Ombred brunette with blonde highlights.
Serena Williams Short Tousled Do
Tennis champion Serena Williams has for the longest time donned lengthy dos. However, last year she debuted a short tousled do. She spots a half-fringe blended well within the look. She wears it in jet black and this is definitely one of those hair inspirations that will remain in our memory books.
Tyra Banks’s Pixie
Early last year Tyra Banks debuts a chic super-short pixie do. For as long as we can remember Tyra has always donned super long to mid-length dos. However, she explained that her decision to change her style came about as a branding change. Brings to mind the famous words of Coco Chanel ‘A woman who cuts her hair is about to change her life.’
Nicki Minaj’s Blonde Bob
Nicki Minaj is yet another celebrity who changes her hairstyle often. In fact, she could be credited for having rocked most of the current hairstyles before they even became trends. Last year she began by ditching the wigs and weaves for her natural hair and then debuted a blonde bob. She had at some point worn a jet black bob, but at some point she went blonde with it.
Gabrielle Union’s Pin Curls
Gabrielle Union channeled retro glamor with her gorgeously short pin curls she donned in 2011 for the Black Women in Hollywood Luncheon hosted by ESSENCE. She wore them in a loose style with semblances of a side blended fringe. The black hue gave the do a subtle yet glamorous look.
Lupita Nyongo Natural Pixie
Anyone who is growing their hair out from the big chop or simply anyone who wants to go short, but not scalp short, can steal some inspiration from Lupita Nyongo’s grown out natural Pixie do. We got used to her super short do, but she has since grown out her hair and now maintains a gorgeous natural pixie.
Naomi Campbell’s Cropped Bob
Naomi Campbell has donned long weaves ever since we’ve known her, or so it seems. She donned a stunning cropped bob, giving her a refreshingly sophisticated look. The bob comes with a bang, giving a charming face-framing look.
Brandy’s Pixie Cut
In April last year Brandy debuted a pixie cut, in readiness for her Broadway role in ‘Chicago’ as Roxie Hart. The shorter do features an undercut accompanied by exaggerated layers at the crown. It wasn’t apparent whether the cut was on her actual hair, but she did wear the look well.
If there is a celebrity who wears a myriad of short hairstyles and does it ever so fashionably it is Viola Davis. A while back she spotted a short do with retro waves. She wore the look in a chestnut hue, which beautifully brought out her facial features.
Angela Basset’s Short Spiky Cut
Angela Basset is another celebrity who has donned long hairstyles for the longest time. She decided to switch it up with a short spiky cut, which she has maintained for quite a while now. Modernize this style a bit with honey dip dyed tips or wear it in one of the season’s trending hues.
Halle Berry’s Signature Cut
You can’t talk about celebrity short hairstyles and not mention Halle Berry’s signature cut. The award winning actress has donned her short hair for as long as we have known her, with a little tweak here and there. Steal the look and wear it in a ‘bed head’ look and spice it up with some color as well.
BET AWARDS 2016
Congratulations to the Humanitarian Award winner “Grey’s Anatomy” star Jesse Williams. He won for his contributions to the Black Lives Matter movement, and his acceptance speech knocked it out of the park with frankness and telling it like it is brought to a new level. Google it if you haven’t heard it yet. It’s worth a listen.
